Michael Burges reactivates the old, traditional technique of painting behind glass, which is rarely used in contemporary art. "My interest is not in traditional painting, but in the painting processes themselves, which take place, and thus bears neither a personal signature nor a message. In my painting the matter is the actual actor. This means that I let the material perform itself through physical or chemical structural processes.“ The painting material is applied directly to the reverse side of the Plexiglas pane.
Through the added construction of a reverse frame via a special adhesive technique, this unique way of painting acquires an outstanding presence of a frameless, "free-floating" pane.
