Knut Wolfgang Maron stands in the tradition of subjective photography. He has renewed this photographic approach of Prof. Dr. Otto Steinert from the 50/60's via Prof. Erich vom Endt in the 80's together with Janet Zeugner and Marc Grümmert in the 2000's, and the photographic movement under the Title "New Subjectivity" was founded. In 2006 the programmatic Publication "Rejection of reality". In this publication Maron and his students confess
away from a documentary and mediating reality, towards a metaphorical, visionary and poetic, subjective view of contemporary photography. 2010 the book " New subjectivity" was published; 2020 the book "1000 eyes". This is a continuation of the "New Subjectivity" in photography.
The "subjective" photographer is an observer. He recognizes the important details that dominate the respective situations. He looks around him full of suspense, like the spectator in the theatre looking at the stage. Maron has been associated with Roberto Ciulli's "Theater an der Ruhr" in Mülheim for 40 years. The cycle "DIESE GESPENSTER" created there shows what is not fixed, but rather the movement of the characters in a significant situation. The photographs seem as if they have been breathed in, similar to the paintings of the Impressionists. This pictorial photography caused a great sensation in the 19th century and was controversially discussed.

Influenced by his regular visits to the great Parisian museums, his pictorial understanding and vision developed. He now continues this pictorial understanding in his new subjectivity.
