SALOMÉ BERGER

"Verflechtungen"

Apr 16 - Mai 30, 2026

In her evocative, surreal-looking paintings, Salomé Berger creates fantastical worlds in which body parts and plant forms merge into new hybrid entities. She paints these against backgrounds composed of landscape or abstract fragments, creating collage-like compositions that, despite their lack of uniformity, evoke an intuitive sense of space.

The works follow a visual logic: sharply defined figures in the foreground draw the eye, while the background remains shadowy—a painterly counterpart to the human act of focusing.

The starting point for her work is a series of small collage sketches, which Salomé Berger then transfers to canvas using acrylic and oil paints. In doing so, she uses painting to simulate the collage technique, thereby exploring the very process of construction and reconstruction. Her works explore perception, subjective reality, and the coexistence of parallel worlds. In the series *New Places*, scenic landscapes and abstract swaths of color intersect, overlapping, obscuring, and revealing one another—symbolizing visual habits, fragmentation, and ambiguity.

Influenced by her studies under Prof. Cornelius Völker at the Münster Academy of Fine Arts, from which she graduated in 2022 as a master’s student, Salomé Berger combines painterly tradition with contemporary reflections on imagery and perception.
