Sculptures by Ernst Hesse present the urban context of complex traffic situations - and by nature the focusing frame, thus enabling looking into the distance providing closeness and distance. On occasion to the World Cup in Japan, Hesse created a sculpture out of corten steel "..global frame for friendship“ (2000) in Fukuroil. In addition to his highly extraordinary large formats, Ernst Hesse has created sculptures in a small, almost tiny format .

Ernst Hesse draws. He starts drawing from the very beginning of his work, parallel to the sculptures which made him well known . The drawings are by definition autonomous.


In addition to sculptures and drawings he created photographic works.


Ernst Hesse was born in Düsseldorf in 1949. From 1976 to 1981 he studied at the Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf. His metal sculptures are among others in Düsseldorf - Ehrenhof, Munich, Lippstadt, Viersen and in Japan. Important solo exhibitions took place in Kiel, Kleve, Düsseldorf, Osaka, Izmir, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi and Jakarta. In addition, he has traveled the world as a curator.
